October News

A busy month, partly because I had a convention to attend. But a very enjoyable month. In fact, that’s why I’m still writing. I promised myself right at the beginning that if it stopped being the best job I’ve ever had, I’d stop doing it.
And even there people told me they enjoyed what I did, so I felt really privileged. It was the IASPR conference, the International Association of Studies in Popular Romance. Delegates from all over the world attended to discuss our beloved genre, and it was such a joy to know that in some circles, romance is taken seriously.
We convened in the beautiful 15th century King’s Manor in York, part of York University. So sitting in those lovely surroundings, I listened to papers presented on a variety of topics, including “Don’t Panic: Empowerment through Sexual Submission in BDSM Romance Novels” and “Faerie Gang Bangs and Werewolf LTRs Paranormal Romances as Narrative Spaces for Considering Gender and Sexual Roles.” As I said, fascinating stuff. I plan to write up my notes and make them available, maybe on my website or on The Good, The Bad and The Unread.
York was recovering from a flood, and when I crossed the river, the water was up to the top of the windows on the first floor of most buildings. But York carried on regardless.
So I had a great treat. Next month I get to go to London for an RNA meeting, and I can see the Olympics buildings, which I saw going up, but I haven’t seen since the Olympics. And wasn’t that fun?
Now to writing. I still have to polish the historical, but I’ve been really busy, working on a new project and working on the edits for the next Nightstar book, as well as the next Symbiotics book, which is coming out later this month. Unlaced is a story about a man and woman who discover they have a mutual love of tight-lacing and corsets, but don’t think BDSM. Think burlesque. Those kinds of corsets.
Time just slips away, and then, just the day before yesterday, I got an idea. Of course, it was in the bath where so many great ideas happen. I don’t want to say too much about this one, because it’s exciting and very different to anything I’ve done before. I’m still working out the details!
And I have a new book out this month! It’s out from Loose-Id on the 23rd of October, so do pop over and take a look!

Here’s the description:
A shared fetish should be a pleasure, not a battleground, but for Zara and Charlie, it was war.
Charles, Earl of Woodhouse, loves women in corsets, and Zara Myers loves wearing them, but after one night of fierce passion, it all went wrong. Forced into a marriage of convenience, they have to learn to live with each other out of bed as well as in.
Charlie introduces Zara to the joys of tight lacing, and Zara discovers the Big O, but despite that, she won’t give in and give Charlie complete ownership. If they weren’t married, she could take what he’d given her and walk away, but she can’t do that now. She’ll stay and fight.
As she learns to master the new feelings he’s brought to her, Zara learns how she can use it to bring even greater pleasure to herself and her husband.
Charlie’s not ready for the way Zara blows his mind anytime he’s near her. Used to controlling his life, even down to the women he takes to his bed, he’s not sure he likes losing it so completely. It takes a new kind of bravery for him to face this unexpectedly strong woman.
